Feature writing is one of my favorite styles of writing. There is so much exposition that is not just about the game, but can humanize and localize interest on individual athletes and their stories.

This feature was written about Rhett Kingston, the 2023 SPHL rookie goal-scoring leader, who made the Rapid City Rush hockey team (ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames) in only his second year of pro hockey. Why is that so special? Because Rhett is playing at the professional level with only three fingers on one hand.

2017 N.C. State Hockey Season Recap

The 2017 N.C. State club hockey team showed promise to avenge an ACCHL championship game loss to Georgetown the year prior. However, injuries and unforeseen setbacks saw the Wolfpack plummet to a paltry 5th place in the league standings. Despite the season’s difficulties, State made it’s fourth title game appearance in five years, but still fell shy of the elusive Admiral’s Cup.
